Did you know that God loves your perfect imperfections? Especially the ones you try to hide and He knows are there! Let them shine, bring them out into the light to accept the new You, and perhaps they will no longer look so bad!
P L Travers wrote about Mary Poppins as being Practically perfect in every way whereas John Legend in his song, All of me, sings about your perfect imperfections – which has been played at many weddings since, but where are you in your imperfection v perfection journey?
- Perhaps you wish to hide your imperfections and always appear perfect?
- Perhaps you only strive for perfection and when you or others fall short you are very critical?
- Perhaps you shrug off any imperfections and sweep them under the carpet as though they are dirt?
I was recently doing some brick laying (yep the secret garden is still being built!) and came across some sub-standard bricks – but as I looked at them I had some other thoughts … perhaps it’s the imperfections which are the real things of beauty rather than the perfect ones! Is this why God loves us so much?
- How do we measure up in God’s eyes?
- Do you think God loves us less because you are not perfect?
Sometimes, in the goal to be perfect in all that we do or expect others to be, we miss out on the intricacies of life, on the pathways of growth and the potentials of learning well from our mistakes.
If anything, I think He loves us all the more, and perhaps wants us to stop trying to achieve the impossible, but to accept and relax in His acceptance of us. To accept that we are a work in progress, and each day is one to learn more and to love Him more. Then we may realise that He is the only perfection that is needed in our lives!

I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things
or that I have already reached perfection.
But I press on to possess that perfection for
which Christ Jesus first possessed me.
