What does your comfort zone look like?
Is it your secure place where you can retreat against the world or is it the place you operate from, with the knowledge that you know your job and skill levels and you have no need to be competitive or to strive harder than necessary?
Perhaps it’s a place, which is a little boring – but as it is without risk you’d rather settle there than do something about it!
Knowing your comfort zone is good, but also knowing that you can extend it and push the boundaries a little is also a healthy place to be.
I believe that God stands just outside your comfort zones and gently calls to you to step a little nearer, calling your name and wanting you to respond personally to Him. He might not want you to travel a long way, to be really uncomfortable, but I’m sure he doesn’t want you to stay still either!
It could be that you can emerge from your comfort zone rather like a caterpillar coming out of its safe cocoon into the new life of a butterfly? What adventure that could be?
What keeps you in your comfort zone?
- Fear of the past and fear of the future?
- Doubts of your learning capacity?
- Belief that you can’t do it, won’t be successful or liked if you take that step.
Perhaps you do not want to move away from the status quo of your life, which has taken years to create?
What kind of New Testament do you think we would have if the fishermen, Peter and Andrew, James and John had stayed in the comfort of their boat, following in their father’s footsteps rather than responding to Jesus’ call, “Come, follow me”?
What is Jesus calling you to do today?
For me, it is to do more speaking – and it is a scary thought – particularly making the ask of ministers to speak in their church. The rejection possibilities are enough to keep me in the secure comfort zone of only making broadcasts online. Yet, it wasn’t so long ago that making the broadcasts was scary!
Can you help me push my boundaries?
Watch this second video here, and I would love to come to your place and speak about God’s love and plans for you and your church.
Meanwhile, can I help you move a little further outside your comfort zone? Do you have a story to tell? A book to write; yet it might be more comfortable keeping it to your immediate friends and families? I can help you. Or something else?
I would love to pray for you and encourage you in areas that God is calling you to. Perhaps He may even be whistling!
“You have not chosen me, but I have chosen you.
I have appointed you to go and produce fruit that will last,
so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he will give it to you.”
John 15:16 (ISV)
The associated Broadcast is here to watch – talking about Zebedee and Jonas too!
